The Blackpool Armed Forces and Veterans’ week is a series of events at various locations across the city that is held to honour Blackpool’s men and women of the armed forces. Unlike the rest of the country where towns and cities may have a day set aside to honour men and women serving in the armed forces, Blackpool has set aside a complete weekend of events during that week. The Armed Forces and Veterans Week in the UK was started in 2006 as a way of recognising the services and sacrifices made by the men and women of the Armed Services.

The Blackpool Armed Forces and Veterans’ week is set to take place between the 18th and 26th June 2011, and plenty of fun is planned for all of the family. Some of the planned events for the week include a nineteen forties style tea room experience. Also in the pipeline for the Armed Forces and Veterans’ week is a flag raising ceremony and an afternoon tea dance as well as a ‘going to the flicks’ experience showing ‘Dad’s Army Marches On.

A lot of thought has been put into this year’s Blackpool Armed Forces and Veterans’ Week celebration and there is a good mix of fun things to do and more serious events to honour the troops such as  an illuminated tribute at Blackpool Cenotaph and Music for Heroes at Blackpool RAF station. The events include a special Veterans’ Gala Dinner and an Armed Forces Saturday night big band dance at Blackpool’s famous Tower Ballroom. Sunday morning is a little more serious with a Sunday service and then some relaxation in the Veteran’s Golf Challenge. The Blackpool Armed Forces and Veteran’s Week is brought to a close with a Veteran’s Parade.
